Walking Through Ancient Rome

by Lisa H.

One has never truly experienced the country of Italy until they have roamed the beautiful streets of Rome. The eternal city has something for everyone, whether it's shopping, photography, art, history, or anything in between. On Saturday July 9th, we got on the bus at 5:00 a.m. and got an early start towards our destination. We all piled off the bus around 9:30 a.m. and without even realizing it we stepped onto the streets of one of the most historical cities in the
world.

We walked the streets of Rome until we reached the famous Coliseum. To think that such an intricate structure was built so many years ago, and with such a large scale astounded us all. The architecture was a true work of art that made each and every one of us stop and take pictures with our old and new friends. The balance and unity within the coliseum combined with everyone’s bright and beautiful smiles created the perfect pictures.

Rome was the perfect place to really test out our Italian. Communication is key, especially when trying to find aqua (water), or the bathroom. We were forced to speak the language that was foreign to almost all of us, which was a good challenge for everyone. Throughout the rest of our day we visited many other historical monuments and museums where we learned lots and had tons of fun! By the end of our trip we were all exhausted and ready to get back on the bus and head home to Lanciano.

It was an amazing day, filled with history, excitement, laughter, and smiles. None of us could have asked for more! Thanks CCI!
