Time for class!

It’s a hot July morning, an early start to the first of many summer days. The infant rays of a morning sun hit my face as I feel the cobblestone beneath my feet. I’m in the most beautiful city in the world and the only reminder of where I’m headed is the weight upon my back. A backpack? I’m actually going to school!?

Like the city of Lanciano, our school is full of culture and history. The building itself is centuries old, Greek and Roman architecture surround me, not to mention the nine flights of stairs I hike to my classroom.

Through my left ear I listen as the Italian class eagerly butchers the language and watch as my classmates recreate painting techniques from historical times.

The photography class explores the depths of this foreign city, capturing each moment of their summer adventures.

The history classes hit the books and not only use their imaginations to travel into the past, they go out to explore the remains of it. In the words of Mr. McNiff: “Why should I lecture about historical monuments when we can just go out and see them!”

When 3:30 pm hits we all try and cramp through the dwarf sized doorway leading out of the school and make our way back to the marvelous adventures Lanciano has to offer.
